Hadrian
Okay, so about Hadrian's love interest, I'm going to make a wild guess and say it's going to be Arista. I just have this feeling because she threw such a big hissy fit over being married off to some noble man, so I got the feeling they're not exactly her type. Plus, the fact that she knows magic may be of great help to Hadrian and co., so I'm guessing I'll see more of her in the future. A future that would probably involve her falling in love? Lol.

Re: Hadrian

Books describes Hadrian as a great big puppy dog. I don’t think that qualifies as noble characteristics! But what would Alric think? (Well, there is this one point where Hadrian has to pretend to be noble … *He’s terrible at it!*)

What do you think of Royce? I think he’s got a heart hidden somewhere, but it’s been hardened out of him (in one of the later books, you learn more of Royce’s history, and you feel so sorry for him) And definitely the last books makes your heart break for him.

And be careful when Books points out that it’s someone you know. If there was a passing reference, Books will claim you “met” them and have you racking your brain for who they are. She was very mean to me about the last book, since I had to wait so long to read it …. *The point of that statement is to tell you to keep your eyes wide open when meeting new people* grins wickedly!

Re: Hadrian
Oh, I just meant to say that I don't think Arista likes the noblemen type, so I thought she'd be more likely to fall for our tough rogue here. And I get the feeling Alric would totally approve, because he just loves his "royal protectors". Hahaha! Well, that's a total guess on my part, but yeah, Alric's warming up on me.

Royce... er, so far, apart from his little chat with Gwen at the end of book 1, I'm just not getting enough dimension from him. Though I am definitely intrigued by the mystery surrounding him, how every time someone talks about elves, he'd bristle and get all defensive and stuff. I like him so far, I mean, I like all of them so far, but they didn't spark the same instantaneous attraction from me as someone like Jiaan from Farsala, or even Miranda from LoEM. When I first read about Jiaan (and to an extent, Kavi), I immediately thought "I'm rooting for these guys!" But so far, I just have a feeling that Hadrian and Royce would *always* be alright, so there's really not enough reason to worry about them.

Whoa, that's a long response. XD I love Book's idea of a free-for-all discussion.

Oh, so Books is having a little revenge on me, eh? I made her guess who Thorn ends up with, so now she's having a little fun with me too!! I get it. Hahaha... well then, I'd be a little more observant. Though really, I just can't remember any other girl mentioned even in passing. Hmm...

Mistborn
And Vin has *always* had issues with age! Spook is only 2 years younger than her and she thinks he's a child! Elend's only 21 and she said he was twice her age. Haha, I can see why she'd think 38 is ancient.

Oh, don't tell me much yet; I'd really rather not be spoiled (despite the fact that I've already looked up who would die in this book =P). Except for the love triangle. I'd hate to get another Adela surprise waiting for me. Hehe.

Oh, and in the sample chapters online I read the part where Vin looks under Elend's bed for assassins. XD So cute! *Edit* Elend should really just take some advice from Sophos and sleep with a knife under his pillow. =P

Re: Mistborn
What?! Someone is dying in this book? Wah. Someone should really tell authors that killing off your characters is *NOT COOL.*

I haven't met this love triangle person yet, but I'll at least let you know when I come across him....frankly, I have a hard time seeing Vin falling for anyone else. So maybe it's not a love triangle so much as some poor guy who get's the door slammed in his face XD I just read this really funny part involving Elend and a friend of Sazed's......You'll like it :) And yes, Vin is cute when she's paranoid XD
Lengmanderelee on June 6th, 2013 02:36 pm (UTC)
Re: Mistborn
As far as I know, 2 people we know from the first book will die, and several new characters will also die. I KNOW!! Totally not cool, unless they're bad guys. If Kelsier was still alive, I bet he'd have fun playing the fatherly role to Vin.

I think you've met him already. I think it will be the Watcher. And I read a fanfic that sort of spoiled what happened with the love triangle, and it really is Vin falling in love with someone else, not just someone falling in love with her. Which breaks my heart, because it's like the whole Adela affair again, except this time there's more investment. I read something about Vin finding another Mistborn who could understand her better than Elend, because Elend's not a mistborn, so yeah.

Really?? Is it Tindwyl? I love cute parts, I can't wait to see it. WoA is already in transit, so I should get it some time, but in the meantime I'm finishing off Avempartha.

Re: Mistborn
Okay, so I started reading Mistborn, and Kell just got his team all together, but I have a question: Who's thoughts are supposed to be at the top of each chapter? Am I supposed to know, or is this kinda like in Farsala, where you don't find out until the last page? You guys don't have to tell me, but I was just wondering out loud!
Lengmanderelee on June 6th, 2013 02:37 pm (UTC)
Re: Mistborn
Aha, yes, you get to find out at the very end. Just like Farsala! Are you getting the Farsala vibes too? Because I totally got it when I first started reading. *EDIT* Oh, actually, you'll know who it is part way through; he'll never tell you outright, but you'll know. And it relates to a twist at the end.

Faery Rebels
Okay, I just have one question about these books: What do Paul and Peri live on????? Neither of them seem to have a job, and if their studio is as plastered with Paul's paintings as Timothy says it is Paul's not really selling them. So where do they get all their money?? Or maybe Paul just paints that much that he can afford to sell a whole bunch and still keep a lot too. Completely Random! Sorry!! :)
Lengmanderelee on June 6th, 2013 02:04 pm (UTC)
Re: Faery Rebels
Yeah, I think Paul paints a lot and sells them. That's the impression I got anyway. I'm not sure exactly where I read it, maybe it's in the third book, but I had the impression that Paul is really a respected artist and doing quite well. Oh, and Peri paints too, by the way. They're both artists. ^^

Re: Faery Rebels
ooh, I have a FR question too... Does Paul ever regain the use of his legs? L. mean, now that the faeries have their magic, and they have healing powers and all that, I kind of think it's be nice for Paul to be rewarded for his sacrifice back in SH.... I don't know if he'd accept it though.. . . Peri would probably make him: )

Good for them! It was a bit unclear, I guess I should have assumed that he had more than just what Timothy saw. Of course he wouldn't sell the ones of Peri!

I think it will be interesting to see them from Rhosemeri's eyes in Arrow. It'll be kinda like seeing Gen from Costis' point of view in KoA.

Robin
I've always been curious about his past; we actually don't get more insight on Robin in the third book, so everything we know about him is all that we'll get to know.

What do you guys think he did to get his talent? I remember him mentioning something about having sacrificed blood for it. Do you think he murdered people for it?
Booksrgood4ubooksrgood4u on June 7th, 2013 10:47 pm (UTC)
Re: Robin
Hmmmm....Didn't the Empress mention something about drinking the blood of a human musician? SHe seemed pretty smug about, too, as if were somehow her doing, as a reward for Rob for being such a good and loyal subject. I had the impression that Rob was kind of revolted by the whole affair, and probably very regretful, and that's why he was on a mission to find the Children of Rhys as sort of a penance. Not much of that is backed up by the book, it's just where my mind took his story XD

Re: Robin
Ah so you interpreted it that way. Okay, it's a much better way to look at it than what I initially saw it. I have a feeling I really need t re-read the series again. It's already been a year! And I think it's also time for a Farsala reread for me too, as well as a QT one. Ah so many great books!

Hadrian (cont'd)
So, I started a new comment 'cuz the other was getting so skinny!

I couldn't believe it when they killed off Fanen. Mauvin was so heartbroken. They were fun to have around (Mauvin eventually perks up, he's got most of his old self back by the sixth book) And they sort of kept Alric in his place, and not getting too big a head ....

There's a short story the author realised while the books where being published about when Hadrian and Royce meet their "noble" friend who got them all their jobs (brain freeze - can't remember his name) and how Royce thought Hadrian was so naive, and lost them their dinner, but Royce had saved some dried meat, and he shared it with Hadrian, even though he said Hadrian should starve! All the while, telling Hadrian how he didn't deserve it - but he gave it to him anyway. Royce is much softer on the inside than he likes to let on!

And getting Myron his abbey back instead of asking for something for themselves was really un-selfish of them! And Magnus eventually gets an even bigger job than working for Myron, though I would have loved to see them working together!

Interesting theory on Hilfred all around. I'll keep my mouth shut on everything else, but I will say that as I was reading the series, my opinion pretty much followed alot of what you're pointing out (it's just hard to discuss without giving it away!)

Arista doesn't do much to help Thrace, but it's not for lack of trying ... And Thrace does eventaully get some help, and there's a real transformation at the end, but she's still so sad ...

Very interesting theory on the heir and Jerish's descendant. Who do you think the heir might be?

(Sorry for the long response, and the delay ....)
Lengmanderelee on June 12th, 2013 12:18 am (UTC)
Re: Hadrian (cont'd)
Good idea! I think all of our post threads would eventually have to start fresh again... Mistborn's getting quite skinny as well.

I KNOW!!! OMG, I just wanted to give Mauvin a big hug, because I know he loves his brother so much. =( I'm kind of afraid for him now, because the church would be after him as well. Lol, I think Arista would do a fine job by herself of not letting her brother's head swell too much. XD

Really? Cool, I'll check that out too. OMG, all these exciting series all in one summer, I think I'm going to explode!

You know, apart from Eli Monpress, in all the other thief books I've read including this one, all these "thieves" are actually pretty selfless. Lol. I think giving Myron back his abbey was such a wonderful way to end the first book. I hope Myron gets a bigger part in the following books.

*GASP* You're keeping lots of things there, that I get the feeling Hilfred's just going to get killed off. I mean, he *was* badly burned, and I don't think he might even survive a second burning. T__T OK, if that's the case, I'm shipping Arista with Mauvin again. Oh, what am I saying? I'm so heartless... I man could be dying, and all I care about are my ships!

Oh no, poor Thrace!! Well I hope she gets some real friends by the end of the series, people she can trust and be happy around with.

Well, I'm thinking I haven't met the real heir yet. I'm hoping it's NOT Alric. Though I do have a strong feeling it would be Hadrian, but I'm hoping he'd still be Jerish's descendant instead.

I don't mind long responses =D I love discussions!
1221bookworm1221bookworm on June 12th, 2013 11:19 pm (UTC)
Re: Hadrian (cont'd)
Well, Mauvin survives the church. And Alric needs all the ego puncturing he can get. In the last book he's almost unbearable even with Mauvin and Arista to keep the pressure on ....

I know, it's terrible when there's too much going on at once! Where all going to explode!

That's what so great about fantasy, even the "undesirables" have redeemable characteristics! And Hadrian and Royce really start to see the big picture as the series goes on - as well as getting dragged in even when they don't want to be involved - but it's a lot more political than say, Eli Monpress...

Well, don't worry, when I was reading the series, I had the same wild swings for Arista and her ships, and well, you're going somewhere with Hilfred..... (And don't worry, Arista goes crazy with her own ships, too) You'll understand why your statement on "dying men" and Arista's ships is so ironic later in the series *plays at being mysterious*

Thrace finally comes out as well as could be expected by the end of the series, but it's a long journey....

Well, you have met the heir, but don't worry, you won't find out the true answer to all those questions till the very *very* end of the series!

Do you know when you will get the next book?

Arrow
So, I got Arrow when I got home from work yesterday, and I've already read like over 100 pages, and the Empress has Rhosmeri hostage, but I haven't seen Peri, or Paul, or Timothy, or Linden yet, and that's all Books cares about. "Have you seen any of them yet???" she keeps asking me! Anyway, I feel bad for Rhosmeri, since she really didn't know what she was stepping out into. Martin used her all along, and she should most definitely *not* have trusted Martin with her story, no matter how many dirty looks he gave her. He didn't deserve it. And now the Empress know everything. Rhosmeri should slip the note out with the grocery deliverer to get word to Timothy (and Peri and Paul) It is very obvious she is in love with Timothy, or at least infatuated with him at the moment .... Anyway, that's how I think Rhosmeri should escape, but I don't know how she does it yet.... I had to put the book down :(

Lengmanderelee on June 12th, 2013 12:39 am (UTC)
Re: Arrow
Yeah, it takes a while for them to show up, but when they do, things get very eventful. Especially during the ending. ^^ I feel bad for her too, but when I was reading Arrow, I fell for Martin as well, as embarrassing as it is to admit. I thought he'd finally changed his ways, and that he's really going to help her, so then when he led her to the Empress, I was pretty shocked. I think she's got a big crush on Tim, just because she hasn't seen anyone act out like that in the Isles. There are lots of plot twists to RJ Anderson's books, and I'm afraid that after a few weeks of finishing them, I mostly forget how the little things worked out, so I can't remember how she got out, but I remember Paul does come for her, because she was describing how handsome he was. XD

Mistborn Cont'd.
Re: Oh yay!! That seems like good news. Wow, and they're married! That's great! So few books have characters marrying and still having adventures. QT is one of them, and Faery Rebels as well, but here Vin and Elend remain the main characters! Are you close to finishing the book then? I can't wait to read that part! I bet Elend was really happy!

So, I'm just on chapter 22, and a few chapters back, I just have to say that Straff Venture is absolutely DISGUSTING! Oh my gosh, 15 mistresses? WHAT THE HECK? I can maybe understand like a couple or maybe even 3, but 15? What a COW! And a PIG! He's a.... COWPIG! ASDFLKQWIEUF I hate him! Poor Elend, having to grow up with a father like that.

And I have to say, at first I thought Allrianne might be in her mid twenties, but she was just introduced as the same age as Vin, and I'm a little uncomfortable seeing that Breeze must be at least 25 years older than her. Eh... And is it just me, or does this book have a lot of Kel/Vin ship hintings? I just... I never got the romantic vibe from the first book. Vin had been distrustful of Kel for quite a while, and when she did trust him, he was like a father to her. But I guess it was just Breeze trying to cover up his butt.
Booksrgood4ubooksrgood4u on June 13th, 2013 06:16 pm (UTC)
Re: Mistborn Cont'd.
I'm about to start the last part....sooo probably about anoter 150 pages or so.....Straff is worse than a cow o a pig, he's a rat and a louse. And I was under the impression that he had *more* tan 15 mistresses, and that tos 15 were justtheones he broughtalong wth him. Poor Elend, for sure, nd Poor Elend's Mother!! She never gets mentioned, but can you imagine being the wife of a disgusting excuse for a man like Straff??

Yeah....Allrianne. At first Breeze tried to put her off and was uncomfortable with her affection for him, and then abot hlfway throug the book (After I decided he was awesome) he decided that they were all goig to die anyhow, and so it didn't really matter. So I have revised my opinion of his awesomeness. Though I have to say that Allrianne's conduct was less than admirable.....She wanted to test her allomantic prowess by seein if she could get smeon as skilled as Breeze to fall for her. Still, Breeze is the adult, andhe should have put a stop to it/

I was of the opinion that the Vin/Kell stuff was Breeze's way of deflecting the conversation, and any other mentins are just Elend being insecure, thinking that he will always palein comprison to Kelsier in the eyes of all those who knew him. I am firmly of the opinion that there was never anything at all between them other than the relationship of a mentor and a student. Kell is far too much in love with Mare and Vin was far to suspicious to fall for him, and by the time she got over her suspicions, Kell had already established himself as a sort of teacher or father figure.
Lengmanderelee on June 13th, 2013 09:06 pm (UTC)
Re: Mistborn Cont'd.
Yeah, I wish we can create a new ugly word just for him. Oh yeah, he does have more than 15. He said those were his favourite ones, implying that he actually has more. Ew ew ew. If Elend's mother had gone mad and killed herself, I would have completely understood. I'm glad she's never mentioned, because I would seriously feel terrible for her. And I get the feeling the nobles never really marry out of love; they marry to gain better status and stuff, that's why so many of them fool around with each other despite being married, because they're not really married to someone they like.

Oh, huh. Well, I thought there was something more to Allrianne, but I never thought she'd be that cruel. Poor Breeze. Well, if he thought he was going to die, he thought he might as well take the girl since he'd have no other chance to experience that kind of relationship. But you're right; Breeze is the adult, and I don't think it's appropriate that he'll do something like that. I'll let you know what more I think when I read that part.

Yeah, I got the same impression; even in Brandon's annotations, he said he never intended for Vin and Kelsier to be romantically involved from the beginning, especially because of Kel's relationship with Mare and all.

I'm currently reading the part where Tindwyl takes Vin and Allrianne to shop, and I'm a little bit annoyed with Vin. She's always thinking about how Elend doesn't deserve someone like her, she's not the right person for him, blah blah blah, but how come she never even questions how it must be for Elend to be with someone like her? It's always about how she feels. And so far I've never seen anyone give her a hard time for being with Elend, whereas Elend always gets an ego-beating every time someone mentions his relationship with Vin. It's obvious that everyone, even Straff, thinks she's a little too good for Elend. And I think she's being unfair keeping him dangling like that what with her "Don't leave me" stunts mixed in with the "I don't think we should be together" stuff. I mean, I understand she's got abandonment issues, but if she thinks she has the right to leave because she feels insecure, she should at least give Elend the same right.
Lengmanderelee on June 15th, 2013 01:00 am (UTC)
Re: Mistborn Cont'd.
Okay, I think I got to the part where you were bothered with Elend. That was the part just before she spars with Zane again and he reveals that he's Elend's brother, right?

It's interesting, because I have a completely different reaction! And I must say Vin is the one that is actually creeping me out. I am just stunned that she'd rather have Elend helpless and naive just so she could feel needed and assured; Elend's finally overcoming his weaknesses and growing strong, growing to be someone who could make his dreams come true, and instead of feeling proud, she feels irritated that he doesn't need her anymore, as if that's a bad thing. I understand she's got insecurities, and I think the way she's reacting is completely realistic, which might be a problem; there are people I know very well who acts exactly like this, and it has never been a nice experience to be forced to feel needy so the other person can feel better about themselves. Just like Benehime, right? She's always like "I'm the reason you've got value at all, you need me, blah blah". And OMG, the whole "leave him first so he can't hurt you" thing? NOT COOL! So she's like saying, "You better be needy or I leave you." Oh man, Vin's got more issues than Katniss.

And is it just me, or is Tindwyl giving mixed messages? I found her advice to Elend quite confusing; at first she's all like, "You're an embarrassment, an idiot" and the next "Hey, try to feel arrogant about yourself, because even though you're an embarrassment and an idiot, you must feel like you're the best around." Right... like being called an embarrassment and idiot would help anyone feel better about themselves. And that's not all; she's also giving mixed messages towards Vin. The whole "be yourself" thing is quite contradictory to "be the person that Elend needs you to be". Ugh, my head!

Rise of Empire
So I'm reading Riyria Revelations 2 now!

OMG, where is that punk Hilfred???? Why did he LEAVE!!! Why didn't he tell Arist???? ASLDKFUQIWEUR!P@#j He better come back or I'll throw a hissy fit!

And everybody's sooo depressed! Thrace is unresponsive (I bet it's because of her new name. Ew, Modina? Thrace is so much better!) Mauvin is still mourning, Hadrian's having a midlife crisis, Royce is heartbroken because Hadrian divorced him, and that punk Alric is still being a little brute!

Oh, but these books just seem to get better as I read. The second book had a much better plot than the first, and from what I can tell, I think this third book would be even better than the second!

Oh, and I think I'm right. Royce just hinted at Hadrian's father being Teshlor, so I think Hadrian's the descendant of the Teshlor knight!
